French soldier stabbed in the Neck in Paris

Coming just four days after the murder of British soldier Lee Rigby in London, the stabbing of the French soldier was immediately seen as a possible copycat attack.

The French soldier, patrolling as part of France's Vigipirate anti-terrorist surveillance plan, was injured in the stabbing around 6pm but would survive, the source said.

He was attacked in the business district of La Defense.

French daily Le Parisien cited police sources as saying the suspected attacker was a bearded man of North African origin about 30 years old, and was wearing an Arab-style garment under his jacket.

Though unlike the London attack, this time the suspect ran away.

The France military spokesman, Col. Thierry Burkhard, said the French soldier was wounded but that his life was not in danger. He had no immediate further details on the stabbing.
